Wonderful weather on Sunday as the Gaeltacht-sur-Seine joined with the Community for Mass and launched a very successful afternoon of events to commemorate the 1916 Easter rising. We started with a picnic, Irish coffees and Paris Gaels GAA giving a very user friendly introduction to hurling and Gaelic football. We then had a very inspirational, musically lead and costumed reenactment of the reading of the Proclamation, as Gaeilge et en français. The afternoon continued with a film of contemporary news reels of the Rising, as Gaeilge, specially subtitled in French for the occasion. Followed by a concert of songs from 1916 and a conference on famous poems and poets. The warm Spring weather continued and the refreshments resumed in the Courtyard, we were joined and filmed by a visiting crew from TG4 ( Irish language television) the commemoration will be part of a programme to be broadcast in September.
