Blessed New Year!
Best wishes to you all for the beginning of 2013. I hope it will be a year of “grace upon grace” for us all. We begin the 435th year of a formal Irish presence of prayer, worship and study on the Montagne Sainte Genevieve, and the 243rd year of the Chapelle St Patrick as a home to that tradition– we are not looking too bad for our age, really!
For those who are returning from Ireland or from other parts, welcome back! Over Christmas we had some beautiful moments of celebration, starting with our Advent Carol Service on 9 December. Our Christmas Day Mass was a beautiful celebration with about 100 people present. On Sunday 6 January we will celebrate the Epiphany, la Fête des Rois. This year, our celebration coincides with the first Sunday of Ireland’s presidency of the European Union. The sense of this feast is a celebration of Christ who is the light of all nations, which makes this a suitable moment for our prayer to be focused on asking God’s blessing on the presidency and on the hope of peaceful co-operation and solidarity among European nations.
Some other dates might be good to put into your diaries–we celebrate St Brigid on 3 February. This year we will welcome a Breton group of musicians to our celebration. Again, I would ask people to remember that our St Patrick’s celebration in Notre Dame will take place on 16 March at noon. As this will be our major event for this year, please feel very welcome on that day and spread the word among others!
